We design, build and operate our own installations… and maybe yours?

Designing precision fermentation installations is a skill on its own, requiring careful balancing of the necessary sterility and hygiene requirements with the investment cost.
Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant brings together decades of experience in designing advanced, multi-purpose state-of-the-art fermentation units, an experience we can leverage to make your engineering and construction project a success.
We use a no-nonsense, result-driven approach combined with solid knowledge of scale-up and biotechnology. By fully understanding your process, we can design a tailor-made installation so that you only build and pay for what you truly need!
The importance of STERILITY
There is no such thing as half-sterile: contamination issues are notoriously difficult to solve afterwards but can be easily prevented with proper engineering, eliminating expensive downtime afterwards.
By knowing where to compromise, we can design a CAPEX-friendly, fully sterile installation.
The importance of HYGIENIC DESIGN
Having a well-performing CIP system is key for every non single-use installation, especially in the biotechnology sector where improper CIP can cause all kinds of quality and contamination issues.
The CIP station is an important part of this system, but it cannot do all the heavy lifting on its own: it is key that the whole installation is conceived according to hygienic-design rules. It is possible to save up to 75% on water and chemical consumption with a properly designed installation. Even a single dead-leg can significantly increase flush water consumption.
The importance of selecting the CORRECT EQUIPMENT
The variety in available process equipment has increased exponentially in the past decades, making proper equipment selection an art as much as a skill. Mastering this yields great opportunities for cost-savings while still satisfying all necessary sterility and hygiene requirements.
At Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant, we proud ourselves on selecting the correct type of equipment for all parts of the installation. We challenge the status-quo, avoiding doing things a certain way just because “it has always been done like that”. Instead, we use a pragmatic, fact-driven approach to get the best possible results for smallest investment cost.
The importance of FIRST-TIME-RIGHT
To prevent is better than to cure. Once a plant has been built, it can be prohibitively difficult to correct sterility and lack of hygienic design issues. If an installation is engineered with the correct design-philosophy from the get-go, a lot of pitfalls can be avoided, yielding a trouble-free start-up and production afterwards.
