OUR QUALITY AND FOOD SAFETY POLICY
Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant commits to be a reliable, flexible, competent, efficient business partner and believes that being successful in its mission depends on delivering bio-based products, processes and services, that comply with the highest standards for quality and/or food safety in order to assure customer satisfaction.
To obtain this, a Quality and Food Safety Policy was developed and translated into a code of conduct. The responsibility for successful implementation of the quality and food safety principles belongs with every Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant employee at each level and function in the organization.
OUR CURRENT CERTIFICATES
ISO9001
Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant implemented and maintains a Quality Management System to strive for continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.
Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant obtained the ISO 9001:2015 Certificate (certified by Vinçotte) for:
“Upscaling and optimizing processes at pilot scale level to ready-to-use technology for industrialization and for the production of bio-based products and bio-based processes”.
Design & Development is applicable for projects with TRL (Technology Readiness Levels, according to the European Commission) > 4.
FSSC 22000
Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant is FSSC 22000 (version 5) certified (including ISO 22000:2018 Food safety management – requirements for any organization in the food chain, ISO-TS 220002-1:2020 PRP Food Manufacturing and additional FSSC 22000 requirements) for following scope:
“Production of bio-based food ingredients and additives, based on fermentation, biocatalysis and/or purification processes, packed in bags, buckets, jerry cans or containers (category K)”.
Each FOOD project / process is produced under this scope of BBEPP’s FSSC 22000 certification.
Some background information:
- Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant can run FOOD and NON-FOOD processes.
- In both cases, traceability requirements, cleaning/sanitation procedures and validation of cleaning are followed.
- In case it is a FOOD process:
- Extra sanitation procedures and validation of sanitation are followed.
- A HACCP-study will be performed.
- All PRP- & HACCP principles are followed and respected (eg O’PRP/ CCP, …) during the process.
FOOD and DRUG ADMINISTRATION
Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant is registered with US Food and Drug Administration pursuant to The Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Responsive Act of 2002 (Bioterrorism Act), section 305, added section 415 to the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.
Religious Certification
Religious (Kosher, Halal) certification can be organized upon customer request.

Belgian Food Operator
Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant is registered as “food operator” for the Belgian authorities (Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain).
