Demonstrating a cost competitive, sustainable, scalable intensified micro-algae bioprocess for the production of food-grade medium value, carbon negative ingredients exceeding Market Standards
Unlocking the potential of micro-algae to produce medium-price ingredients, including protein isolates, oils, natural pigments and starch by proving the effectiveness and efficiency of a “Micro-Algae Biorefinery Upgrade Module” (MABUM) to unlock protein isolates, protein concentrates, starch-rich fractions and oils. The project will validate this approach with 13 prototypes for food and 2 for bio-packaging.
ACTIVITIES of the Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant
BBEPP will investigate the scale-up of microalgae biomass production and how to remove harmful impurities that can affect the performance of active ingredients.
BBEPP will implement and validate the DSP strategy to be developed in the project.
