Demeter: Demonstrating more efficient enzyme production to increase biogas yields.
DEMETER will increase the yield of the fermentation process at an industrial scale as well as the down-stream processing of a C1-based biogas enzyme, reducing the cost of the end product and making the enzyme available for wide-spread application in biogas production throughout Europe.

The goal of the Novosides project is the development of biocatalytic processes for the glycosylation of small organic molecules such as flavonoids, alkaloids and steroids. Glycosylation can drastically improve both the physicochemical and biological properties of these molecules (e.g. slow release, improved solubility and stability, taste modification, drug targeting), but few biocatalysts are currently available to perform this modification cost-efficiently at industrial scale.

SMARTBOX will develop an advanced computational engineering platform specifically for oxidative enzymes. Relying on this platform, SMARTBOX will develop the one-enzyme conversion of HMF into FDCA and intermediates, and the one-enzyme conversion of lignin monomers into a potential biobased building block for polycarbonates and vanillin.
